God is always present to us, seeking intimacy and offering gifts and guidance. The trouble is we are not always at home!  Our lives can be crowded and busy, with so many things pulling at our hearts and minds, it is difficult to be still and know that God is God, to listen for God’s voice and simply enjoy God’s company.

Jesus regularly took time away for prayer and reflection, to be renewed and empowered for the work he was called to do. He invites us to do the same:

Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while. (Mark 6:31)

Come to me, all you that are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  (Mt 11:28)

Sacred Pause retreats offer time and space apart to prayerfully reflect on who we are in God, and where we are in our life’s journey.  They give us much needed time for spiritual rest and renewal, for listening more intently to ourselves and God and for receiving the wisdom and grace we need to sustain and revitalize us.  Each Sacred Pause retreat has a guiding theme and texts, leaving space for both individual prayer and reflection and small group conversation.  Enjoy the silence, shared solitude, and gentle guidance in sacred space that invites you to reconnect with the Heart of your heart.

Kimberly offers several Sacred Pause retreats throughout the year, usually for the New Year, during Lent, at the start of Summer, in the Fall, and during Advent. The dates for 2024-25 are:

End of Summer - Sunday, August 25

Advent - Sunday, December 15

New Year’s - Sunday, January 7, 2024

Lent - Sunday, March 10

Summer - Sunday, June 2

The next Sacred Pause retreat will be End of Summer offered on Sunday, August 25, 12:30-4 pm at North Decatur United Methodist Church.

The Bible and other sacred writings are full of injunctions to wake up, stay awake, keep watch. People often speak of having spiritual awakenings. Yet there is so much that lulls us back to sleep. Not to mention lots of ranting about being WOKE. In what ways ARE we called to wake up? How do we keep awake? And is there anything problematic about being Woke?

I invite you to join me and other spiritual seekers for this contemplative retreat afternoon. Through the sharing of our stories and struggles, enjoying a nourishing meal, reading and reflecting with the guiding theme and texts, and community conversation and ritual, we’ll listen for God’s guidance around how we invite and sustain spiritual awakening.
